2024-25 Class Descriptions

Kindergarten - First

Taught By: Mrs. Anklam

​

Art– We will study three different artists: Leonardo DaVinci, Claude Monet, and Georgia O’Keefe.  We will read books about them, look at art prints by them, and do Art projects inspired by their work. We will also create seasonal art projects.


Social Studies– We will do a year-long study inspired by the book Me on the Map.  We will discuss our community, city, state of Oklahoma, the United States of America and the world.  We will read lots of good literature as well as non-fiction books and focus on geography.  We will also learn patriotic songs.


Science– We will study simple machines and machines inspired by Leonardo DaVinci, learn about the Water Cycle, and study Weather.


Language Arts &  Math– In Language Arts we will cover basic phonics skills, review alphabet and sounds, “Popcorn Words” (high-frequency words that “pop” up everywhere), and practice beginning reading and writing concepts by writing/drawing in a journal and practicing writing words that start with each letter. We will also be reading Aesop’s Fables. In Math we will explore beginning Math concepts such as the calendar, skip-counting, money, time, and addition and subtraction using manipulatives.

2nd - 3rd Grade

Taught By: Mrs. Logsdon

This school year the 2nd and 3rd graders will spend their mornings traveling across the USA as we learn about the geography of our country.  From the east coast to the west coast, over mountains, through deserts, and across rivers, we will explore both the physical and cultural geography of each region of our home. In the afternoon we will create art of all kinds, as well as learning a few handicrafts, including paper sloyd (a paper folding art) and weaving. Our afternoons will also include a science time where we will explore the world of reptiles, trees, and pond life. We will end the day with math games!

4th Grade

Taught By: Mrs. Douberley

In 4th grade we will have the opportunity to explore various national parks across the United States. We will learn about geography and the natural features of each region as well as the wildlife and historic areas. Through various handicrafts and art projects we will acquaint ourselves with each region. During the afternoon we will spend our time exploring poetry and literature through group activities and learning games.

5th/6th & 7th/8th Grade (2hrs)

Taught By: Mrs. Kittinger

The 5th/6th & 7th/8th Grade Hub classes are all about community and culture! Broadening our knowledge of other cultures and raising our cultural IQ makes us more aware, adaptable, and connected to the world and people around us! This year, our students will explore different world cultures through interactive studies of history, art, music, literature, language, traditions, beliefs, daily life, and more, focusing on South American, Asian, and Australian communities. We will also craft community art projects and incorporate a living book and music piece for each cultural study!

5th/6th-12:30-2:30

$65 a month, $20 per semester supply fee (must enroll for other half day class)

5th/6th & 7th/8th Grade (2 hrs)

Taught By: Carolyn Canfield

Famous Faces and Places of the US” -- What state holds the famous Iditarod dog sled race? What city streets have Hershey Kiss lamp posts? Who is Maria Tallchief or Frank Lloyd Wright? Where can the Northern Lights be viewed? Where can I dig for diamonds? My favorite book was White Fang...where did the author live? What in the world is a Guggenheim Museum? Well, if you’re even just a little curious, then join this class and jump on our tour bus for an adventure to all fifty US states. Find amazing places and noteworthy people... and then begin YOUR own bucket list of where YOU want to visit on your next vacation! This class will have aspects of activities, notebooks, slides, games, ongoing wall collage, mapping and possible writing projects. A few weeks of the year, our class will also squeeze in a Readers Theatre (dramatic readings of narrative material without costumes, props etc) practicing voice and facial expression as readers bring a script to life!

"BONUS" Classes

 

Bonus class information comes out closer to the semester starting. 

There are classes for all age ranges from K-8th grade. 

They are typically 6 week classes for a $65 fee.

You can choose in and out each session.
