Then we will jump into cultural geography, where we will share beautiful books, look at maps, and occasionally even cook together to develop our connection with children and countries around the world. In science, we will learn together about seeds (fall) and birds (spring) through hands-on exploration and engaging books. We will also create art (using paint, clay, pastels and more), learn some fun folk songs, and play math games that will reinforce skills your child is learning at home.

The 5th Grade Class at the Hub is all about culture and community! This year we will grow in our knowledge of world cultures as we explore different cultural dimensions, and focus on 3 different cultures (Native American, Scottish, and African) through unit studies. Each unit study leads us into a deep-dive of that culture’s history, language, literature, art, music, traditions, beliefs, daily life, food and more. We will also build community as a class by working on “community creations” (art projects that each student contributes to), reading, and practicing and performing folktale “skits” as a class. Beginner Conversational Spanish
¡Hola! Ready to start speaking Spanish?
This engaging and interactive beginner-level class is designed specifically for 8th and 9th grade students who are new to Spanish or want to build a stronger foundation. The focus will be on developing essential vocabulary and expressions used in everyday situations—like greetings, asking and answering simple questions, and talking about interests and daily life.
To support language development, students will also read short, beginner-friendly stories in Spanish. These stories will help reinforce vocabulary, improve comprehension, and expose students to Spanish in context. Through reading, students will naturally build their understanding of sentence structure and gain confidence in both speaking and listening.
Class activities will include role-playing, games, group conversations, and reading discussions—all in a fun, supportive environment. By the end of the course, students will feel more comfortable using basic Spanish in real-life conversations and will be ready to take the next step in their language-learning journey.
No prior Spanish experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try!
